What to Expect

Being well prepared helps you get the most from your treatment. Our aim is to optimize your body’s inherent healing ability and give you tools to maintain good health. The more you participate, the speedier your healing. Please think about and make notes on your main complaints as well as any other concerns or questions you may have.   Please bring a list of medications you are taking as well as any recent bloodwork or radiology reports.

Your first visit requires about 1.5 hours, during which time you have the opportunity to speak at length about your health concerns. The initial visit is designed to enable you to provide valuable information about your current situation. We will discuss your health and personal histories relevant to your treatment goals and a physical exam will be conducted. You will then receive your first individually tailored acupuncture treatment as well as dietary and lifestyle recommendations.  During the consult we will ask many detailed questions about your primary area of concern and many seemingly unrelated questions about things such as digestion, temperature, sleep and work habits, diet, and general stress level.  Your health history as well as that of your family will be useful information too.

Please eat a small meal before arriving for treatment. Acupuncture is not recommended if fasting.  Avoid alcohol or other intoxicants the day of treatment. Wear comfortable, loose clothing if possible.

Subsequent visits will be 1 hour in length.

Insurance

A significant number of insurance companies now reimburse for acupuncture treatments. Payment is due to our office at the time of service. As a courtesy, we will be happy to submit claims electronically to your insurance carrier so that you can be reimbursed directly.

This service does not guarantee coverage. Consult your insurer for the terms of coverage on your policy. You will want to ask your insurance company what your “acupuncture benefit” is.
