The World Health Organization recognizes a number of disorders that have been successfully treated by acupuncture. The following partial list includes common disorders that may respond well to acupuncture:
Headaches, migraines, difficulty sleeping, nervous tension, stroke, some forms of deafness, facial and inter-costal neuralgia, Bell’s Palsy, trigeminal neuralgia, peripheral neuropathy, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), dizziness, Meniere’s disease.
High or low blood pressure, fluid retention, chest pain, angina pectoris, poor circulation, cold hands and feet, muscle cramps.
Asthma, acute and chronic bronchitis, rhinitis, sinusitis, hay fever, chronic cough, laryngitis, sore throat, influenza, allergies and the common cold.
Toothache, post-extraction pain, gingivitis, mouth ulcers, hiccup, spasms of the esophagus, gastric and duodenal ulcers, GERD, gastritis, heartburn, hiatus hernia syndrome, flatulence, colitis, diarrhea, constipation, hemorrhoids, liver and gall bladder disorders, weight control.
Cystitis, prostatitis, orchitis, low libido, erectile dysfunction, urinary retention, kidney disorders, nocturnal enuresis, bladder dysfunction.
GYNECOLOGICAL AND OBSTETRIC DISORDERS
Premenstrual tension, painful, heavy or irregular, or the absence of periods, abnormal uterine bleeding or discharge, infertility, hormonal disturbances, disorders associated with menopause, prolapse of the uterus or bladder, infertility, morning sickness, fibroids, PCOS.
Eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, nerve rash, herpes, acne, scar tissue and resultant adhesions, hair loss and dandruff.
Visual disorders, red, sore, itchy or watery eyes, conjunctivitis, simple cataracts, myopia in children, central retinitis.
Osteoarthritis, sciatica, lumbago, weak back, low back pain, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, shoulder and neck pain, “frozen shoulder”, “tennis elbow”, plantar fasciitis.
Sprained ankles and knees, cartilage problems, corking and tearing of muscles, torn ligaments and bruises.
Depression, phobias, emotional disturbances, anxiety, nervousness and
addictions such as smoking.
